About MWIA
The Michigan Waste Industries Association
is a nonprofit consortium composed of Michigan-based
companies who are involved in the collection, processing,
recycling and disposal of solid waste. Members include
neighborhood trash haulers, regional landfill operators
and managers and environmental engineering firms working
together to ensure that your solid waste is handled
in a way that is both efficient and environmentally
sound.
The process of waste disposal has changed
dramatically in recent decades. Due to the cooperative
vigilance of citizens, public officials, and industry
associates, waste disposal has evolved into a practice
that is well regulated, safe, and clean. Many people
are surprised to learn that today’s waste management
processes involve highly complex technologies and stringent
oversight standards.
MWIA works to provide its members with
support, advocacy, and assistance in meeting the changing
needs of this important industry. Each year, MWIA members
are responsible for properly collecting and disposing
of more than 50 million cubic yards of Michigan’s
waste. In doing so, they employ thousands of people
and contribute millions of dollars to state and local
units of government. They also work closely with public
officials to make certain company operations fully
comply with local, state and federal laws.
